Another neighborhood painting in progress

Oak Tree on Slattery WORK-IN-PROGRESS, detail:

This is a progress detail from the second of two “neighborhood” paintings I’m doing as a print commission. That is, my client wanted large prints similar to two of my previously sold paintings, and the images I had were too small to make good 16 x 20 prints, so, per the request of my client, I’m creating new versions of those two paintings from which to make prints, and making the originals available for purchase.

Below is the entire painting so far:

As you can see, I’m sort of working from the left side of the board to the right, So the left side is mostly finished, while on the right the vivid underpainting is still fully visible.

Check back soon to see further progress ...

Good night ... colorful dreams, everyone!

Really wonderful! I started a painting two days ago. Tried the underpainting thing with the phthalo blue, crimson and yellow. Got freaked out by the yellow and basically covered it up. Started painting after the underpainting dried. Next day I totally undersood why the underpainting had to be there. I need more practice at this for sure. . .but I am seeing. Thank you so much for all the information you share. Even though I live on the west coast if you ever decided to do a workshop for several days I would so come if my schedule of my job would let me. God bless you for sharing!

Thanks so much, Sherry, for sharing what you're trying ... I laughed when you said that the yellow freaked you out; sometimes my whole underpainting freaks me out! LOL. My intention is to start conducting workshops regularly in the not-too-distant future; still trying to figure out logistics, and maybe take one with Susan Sarback in the Sacramento area, to learn from her and experience how she does things. So glad you're trying the vivid underpainting thing ... would love to see how it turns out for you. Happy painting!
