Once I blocked in the basic composition, I really had a lot of fun with this one. One detail you may notice that’s different in this finished piece from the original sketch: I took out a fence post that was near the right end of the row of tall grasses. What can I say ... it just wasn’t working for me! I like the painting a lot better without it.
Here are some extreme close-up details of different areas so you can see more easily the brush strokes, textures I added with a palette knife, and layers of glazed color:
